US Missile Defense Agency Chief in Prague

Despite constant protests from Moscow, talks of an American missile defense shield being build in the Czech Republic and Poland continue. This Monday, US Missile Defense Agency Chief Henry Obering arrived in Prague to meet with Czech officials and discuss more detailed information regarding a radar base for the planned anti-missile shield. Obering will meet with Czech leader Jiri Paroubek, whose Social Democratic party is leading the opposition against placing the American military facility in the Czech Republic.

In addition to meeting Mr. Paroubek, Obering will speak to members of the Czech parliament and the Czech State Security Council, where he will explain the specifics of the missile shield's operations, and the Czech Republic's proposed role.

While these talks are simply talks at the moment, opposition to the plan continues to grow, not only from Russia but also from other NATO and EU members, not to mention Czech citizens themselves - 61% of Czechs are against the plan according to the most recent poll.
