Euro 2012 Final Confirmed for Kiev

Michel Platini, UEFA President, has confirmed Kiev's reconstructed Olympic Stadium as the location of the Euro football championships final in 2012.

Poland's cities, which will be co-hosting the event with Ukraine, had already been confirmed earlier this year as being Wroclaw, Poznan, Warsaw, and Gdansk. However, due to Ukraine's struggle in preparing its potential host cities, the UEFA had delayed their decision until now. Significant infrastructural problems were cited by the UEFA as major issues in Ukraine's bid. The country was hit particularly hard this year in the global economic recession.

However, at a recent visit Platini was impressed enough to approve Kiev as the location for the championship final, as well as three other Ukrainian cities for hosting matches: Lviv, Donetsk, and Kharkiv.
