Hannibal the Cannibal

Lithuania serves as the unlikely backdrop for blockbuster movie of the moment Hannibal Rising. The multi-million dollar movie is a prequel to Red Dragon, casting creepy light on Dr Lecter's little known past.

As you might have guessed, Hannibal is in fact a Lithuanian count who can trace his ancestry back to Hannibal 'The Grim', a gallant medieval warlord who helped vanquish the Teutonic knights.

Hannibal's idyllic childhood is shattered by the war, and some grotesque acts commited against his family spark the satanic streak that we know so well.

Well, we won't spoil the rest of the story, which was adapted by Thomas Harris from his own novel of the same name. That said, whilst the novel got quite enthusiastic reviews, Hannibal Rising the movie has come off rather worse from the critics glares.

Nevertheless, if you can't resist a bit of cannibalism this February, Hannibal Rising is opening at cinemas across Europe.
