Problems Persist at Kiev Zoo

Once a point of national pride of Kiev's residents, the city zoo has come under increased scrutiny lately for its continuously shady record of animal treatment. Over the last few years, the 100-year-old zoo has seen possibly hundreds of animal deaths. Kiev Zoo's management has defended the zoo's practices citing old age as the primary cause of death amongst its residents. However, some animal activists are claiming that the zoo has a serious problem of animal mistreatment from poor living conditions to malnutrition.

A government audit has also discovered that thousands of euros have been misspent on illegal sales of animals and some portions of the zoo's budget have disappeared into thin air all together. Some have also suggested that a conspiracy exists killing the animals in order to bankrupt the zoo thus allowing the zoo's land to be sold.

A government investigation continues.
