Pergamon Does Pergamon

One of Berlin's most celebrated museums, the Pergamonmuseum, has opened an exhibition dedicated to its namesake - the Turkish city of Pergamon. A huge 360 degree panorama of the city is the centrepiece of the exhibition on Museum Island.

Germany's excavations of the western Turkish city uncovered objects of tremendous historic value, including the reconstructed altar on display permanently in the Pergamonmuseum and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Other objects on display will include ancient sculptures, mosaics, tools, instruments, and more.

The panorama on display was created by Berlin artist Yadegar Asisi, and stretches over 25x100 metres in size. The Pergamon exhibition will remain open until the end of September 2012.
