Indian Artist Wins Top Prize at Sandsation

Sandsation, an international sand sculpture competition based in Berlin, has awarded its first prize by popular vote to Indian artist Sudarsan Pattnaik. Following this year's theme of "Heads in Sand", Pattnaik's sculpture was based around the threat of global warming. A giant head formed the base of the sculpture on which stood a crown of the three wise monkeys ("see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil") and a crying tree trunk.

The second prize at the competition went to Patric Steptoe from the UK and the third was awarded to Maria Eliot from Denmark.

Sandsation will be on display until the end of August at the site O2 arena, across from another popular tourist destination - the Eastside Gallery. Stop by from 10am to 8pm Sunday to Thursday and from 10am to 11pm from Friday to Saturday.
