Three Restaurants Represent Germany in Top 50

The S. Pellegrino World's 50 Best Restaurants list has just been announced, placing three of Germany's restaurants in the top 50. The list is compiled by a poll of chefs, food critics, and restauranteurs from across the world.

The highest ranking German entry was Vendome, a restaurant outside of Cologne, chosen for its "equal regard for both haute and humble produce". Vendome ranked 22nd, up 3 places from last year.

Next down the list is Aqua, a new entry to the list. This restaurant, located in the Ritz Carleton in Wolfsburg, was awarded the 34th spot for its " Incredibly accurate two-star cooking that gently challenges the diner?s perception of European food. With reworkings of regional dishes such as Boiled Fillet of M?ritz Lamb with Frankfurt Green Sauce and Breton Sole in Modern Finkenwerder Style [chef Sven] Elverfeld attempts to evoke the memories of his German guest?s regional roots."

The three-Michelin starred Die Schwarzwaldstube in the Black Forest dropped down 24 places to take the 47th spot on the list, taking "full advantage of the abundance of quality and diverse ingredients the Black Forest has to offer."

Winning first place was Danish restaurant Noma, bumping revered Spanish food mecca El Bulli down to second.
