Kazimierz Comes To The Old Town

Sybarite's Spotlight: Club Poselski

A great new bar has just opened up in Cracow's Old Town, offering a refreshing antidote to the thumping house and beer monster shenanigans that have become the norm in this neck of the woods.

Club Poselski brings a sweet dose of Kazimierz charm to Cracow's Old Town. And if you like the sound of a place that's somewhere between a curiosity shop and a Moulin Rouge style sleaze bar, then head on down to Poselka for your Friday night adventure.

Ornithologists will note with interest the plates of our feathered friends by the door, whilst musketeers propping up the bar may spot some naughty nineteenth century prints of a different kind of bird peeping out from behind the bottles.

All this would no doubt be of great interest to the building's previous owners: during the sixteenth century the infamous Arian sect had a chapel here. And after that order was kicked out of Poland, the Papal Envoy set up shop on the premises. Poselska street itself was named after the 'posely' ( members of parliament ), so Club Poselski literally means MPs club. A sorry looking fellow clamped in the stocks adorns the sign outside the entrance. If you're lucky, the artist Tom who designed this sign may tell you more stories about this fine old building, whilst also revealing which modern day politicians he'd like to pelt with rancid tomatoes.

Certainly, older residents will feel a twang of sadness that the trusty old salad bar that once stood here has disappeared. And on the atmospheric level, you might be persnickety and say that the Toulouse-Lautrec posters have been done before and that it could have been a hit to track down the legendary 'Zielony Balonik' equivalents.

But all in all, this is one of the most memorable hangouts to have opened up in the Old Town in recent times. A perfect spot to drop by for a coffee during the day, and a fine place to settle in at night for your voyage into the world Zywiec and Zubrowka. A gem.
