15th World Press Photo show opened at Bunkier Sztuki

This prestigious exhibition is awaited in Krakow every year. Since 15 years it is hosted by a renowned Krakow gallery, Bunkier Sztuki and is always visited by large number of visitors.
The World Press Photo of the Year 2011 was selected a picture by Samuel Aranda from Spain, showing a woman holding her wounded son in her arms, inside a mosque used as a field hospital by demonstrators against the rule of President Ali Abdullah Saleh, during fights in Sanaa, Yemen on 15 October 2011. World Press Photo is an independent, nonprofit organization based in Amsterdam, where it was founded in 1955. Each year, an independent international jury, consisting of nineteen members, judges press photographs in nine different categories, submitted by photojournalists, agencies, newspapers and magazines from all corners of the world. The previous editions attracted almost 400 000 viewers.
This years 55th annual World Press Photo Contest was entered by 5,247 photographers from 124 countries, who submitted 101,254 images in total.
