Let the Games Begin!

What links David Beckham in a speedboat and the Queen of England parachuting? It can only be the Olympic Games, which have begun in London - and which saw Krakow tennis hero Agnieszka Radwanska make history as she became the first woman to bear the Polish flag in the opening ceremony. Radwanska stunned the world when she won through to the final of this year's Wimbledon tennis tournament, losing - though honourably - in the last match, to American Serena Williams. A Polish team of more than 200 will be among the 10,000 or so athletes competing for medals in the 2012 Olympics, which continues until August 12. Only three times before has Poland fielded a bigger squad for the games, and Radwanska and co have high hopes of wins this time around. In the last Olympics, Poland took a respectable haul of ten medals - three gold, six silver and a bronze - to bring their all time total to 261 from 19 Olympics.
