Two Wheel Wonders

One of the highlights of the cycling calendar in Krakow, the Tour de Pologne draws to a conclusion in the city this month. On August 6, the city centre will be innundated by some of the best cyclists in the world, who over the past weeks have been making their way through the country, from Warsaw, via industrial Silesia and the tough mountainous terrain around Zakopane. This seventh and final stage starts at Rondo Matecznego, with cyclists heading north to cross the river before turning right to brush the edge of the market square. From here they will make their way through the city, along Al. Maja 3 and through Piastowksa and Focha before a long, straight run all the way back to the start - and finish point. It is the 68th time the event has taken place, since its inception in 1928. Since then it has grown in popularity and prestige. However, it has yet to be won by a Pole; maybe this time will be the home nation's year of glory...
