Academy of Wroclaw wins Polish University Cup
The inaugural Korfball Polish University Cup, a competition comprising teams representing various university institutions in Poland, became the property of the Academy of Wroclaw after they won the final on May 21.
On the road to ultimate victory the Academy of Wroclaw defeated the Universities of Technology from Lodz and Czestochowa as well as accounting for the Physical Teachers College from Zgierz.
In Poland university sports tournaments are highly valued. These tournaments not only attract a lot of nationwide attention, but they also create some government support.
Karol Majchrzak, who since 2005 has supported the Polish Korfball Federation through his invaluable contributions to development, marketing and communications, took the initiative and was primarily responsible for this large and successful event.
The University Cup is one of the strategic targets of the PKF to enhance player capability, with an eye to developing strength and depth in national selections. Talented students (17 25 yrs) will play a key role in bridging the gap in Polish korfball between the present seniors' generation (the so called second generation) and the booming population of (young) juniors.
