Samsung follows LG to Wroclaw
Samsung Electronics will dog the steps of its closest rival LG Electronics even in Poland, where it will build its own home appliances factory.
"We decided to make inroads into the European premium electronics market," a Samsung spokesman said. Korea's largest electronics maker plans to invest over US$100 million in building the plant, which like LG’s will be in the city of Wroclaw.
LG in September announced it is building a home appliances and liquid crystal display (LCD) factory there.
Behind the two electronics giants' decision are punitive anti-dumping charges against Korean-made electronics in the EU. Poland is particularly attractive among European nations because labor is cheap considering the relatively high level of education.
