Wratislavia Cantans Festival Underway

One of Wroclaw's most anticipated musical events, the Wratislavia Cantans festival, is now underway. Led by artistic director Paul McCreesh, the festival tends to focus on medieval music as well as contemporary classical works.

This year, the 46th edition of the festival, will see the incorporation of several themes. "Saints and Sinners" concentrates on music from the Middle Ages, while "In the middle of life we are death" will showcase music by Polish composers Penderecki and Gorecki. The festival will also pay tribute to the events of September 11 in New York with works by Herbert Howells, Samuel Barber, and Elgar.

Concerts are scheduled to take place in the Wroclaw Philharmonic as well as within the many beautiful churches scattered across the city.
