Golden Heist At Sofia Airport

A deposit of 320 kg of gold was stolen from the vaults of Sofia Airport on October 18th in a heist that has flabbergasted Bulgarian authorities.

The raid occurred at 10 am and it was not until the evening until the news broke on Bulgarian airwaves. The robbery is being billed as the biggest theft in Bulgaria's history.

The goods were stolen from a storage facility at Airport Terminal 1. Items such as smuggled cigarettes and alcohol are usual kept in these vaults.

According to reports, the robbers poured whiskey over the floors to cover their traces. The gold had been confiscated back in August in an attempt to crack down on gold smuggling through Bulgaria.

It remains a rather fishy mystery how the thieves got into the vaults, as there are no signs of forced entry.
