This is an awesome bar. My friends and I were planning on making it our regular place to go as we loved the crowd and music. That was until we were bullied by a 21 year old bartender and a young manager. We were not rowdy, were having a good time and sitting at the bar. The manager was working behind the bar on Friday night March 28th and with a little witty banter he started to get very offensive towards us. I told him I didn't want any trouble and he said, "I run this place and I can speak to you however I want to speak to you." We did not partake in the dramatics and decided that there were more positives than negatives and we would brush it off as silly boy taking his agression out on us. We returned March 29th for a end of night cocktail and the young bartender and manager were there drinking with their friends. They seperated my friend and I and sat beside us to start instigating fights once again. The manager repeated, "I can speak to you have ever I like, do you understand now?" By politely brushing that off him and his employee left to continue drinking. The young bartender came back and again we had witty banter and a harmless battle of wits. None of these guys respect women or like for them to have a voice so he said that we were stupid Canadian girls who asked too many questions. (We were asking about a stone that he had recently put in front of each of us at the bar. No clue what it was about.) He decided to attack me in the most pathetic way possible by calling me fat. We immediately left the bar without saying a word. We will never return as I have never in my life experience bullying like that. Completely uncalled for and for a manager to be looking for a way to kick us out and push our buttons is absolutely unprofessional. What customer service eh? The owner has a great bar, I feel sad for him that he employed such rude men.

69 its bad place, cos of girls-hunters, they like to take all ure cash for nothing+they can work in a strip club, cos in the 2 floor(balcony) there is a strp bar Tutti-Frutti, and it is extremely bad...girls and attitude
Last weekend I went to Riga for sightseeing plus get some fun. I was in Riga two weekend nights - Fri-Sat and Sat-Sun. The 1st night I spent in The Club and 2nd in Studio 69. What was good about S69: - 5 or 6 dance floors (R&B, local dance music, rock, disco, techno...) - a lot of people. I personally like it, but not everyone does. - friendly people who mostly knows how to party. What I hate about this place: - quite expensive. Ticket cost 10 Ls - you need to be really careful in the bars, they ripped me off for another 10 Ls: I paid 20 Ls for a drink but bartender girl gave me change like for 10! Of course - explanations didn't help, I wanted to talk to her manager etc. Of course, no way to prove my right. And to be honest - unless you will pay using a credit card or exact amount there is no way to prevent that. - EXTREMELY loud music. I'm not kidding, almost for whole next day I was hearing noise in my ears. If you really care for your hearing - avoid this place. Overall - 5. For sure - I'll not come back there (although I'm planning to go to Riga soon). Regards
Same place as Nobody write to the colonel. But nice more local place - crowded Thursdays and Fridays - friendly staff and prices.
Haha - funny to see reviews this year of a club there has been closed for 3 years! Changed 2 or more years ago to Babylon and now its variete show..
You'll end up being robbed here, lost 1000dollars they force you to pay by card!

I visited the colonen by a recommendation of a local bartender. If you're looking to find local people instead of sitting in a brit pub filled with tourists this is definatly a place you should check out. Cheapest beers were 1 lvl, so price range wasnt too bad. Alot of cute girls and a semi big dance floor.

Great music but there is indeed a watch but don't talk and touch policy in place. Kind of an arrogant atmosphere in there. Careful not to order beer in English since they will automatically give you Heineken for 3 Lats a bottle (4,20). Another warning is entering, when you don't leave your jacket and end up in the casino they won't let you back in so you have to walk around outside back to the entrance. The lady there will look at you an say she doesn't recognize you so paying again is necessary. Don't object since bouncers are readily available!

Really fun place to start and end your night. Affordable drinks, good music and a lot of local students that want to party! Go to the Colonel, you won't regret it!
Groks, Roxy, Cigar Bar, Casino 777, Angelica, Barfly, Zephyr, Dolls House, Essential Club, Nobu (sushi place!) " sure you could get robbed, well going to places where white trash people go to have fun. And white trash people hold these clubs :D it is so funny that people still go to these places :d
Dear "me" & co, So, according to you, tourists going to riga nightclubs deserve to be robbed? If there was a "world stupidity" award to be given, you would definitely deserve it. First, because it's racist, everybody should be allowed to have fun in Riga just like everywhere in Europe as long as they behave, second because, these ******* tourists make your poor economy survive and third, because, if there is a sex tourism in Riga, that's because there is an offer from locals for this kind of services. I was in Riga last year, and the Roxy club was pretty cool - nothing happened to us (probably because we don´t look like the guys you want to mess with...). But we heard from lot´s of others that had problems. So the f**** sex tourists will not come back and spend their money in countries where we will be welcome. Greetings Keith

Super place! But please be carefull here - behave good and dont be a drunken fool..then you ask for your own punishment ;) Not all girls here are so nice as they say... But fall in and do your homework - nice russian musicroom downstairs..love it. Been in Roxy for 7 years since i meet my ex-girlfriend there in 2002 - nothing never happend to me (but i never go out in football tshirts) barmen/girls are more helpfull than you think!
Great place, great location, beautiful girls, cheaper then essential club. But i think, the girls like to play with the guys "Watch, but dont touch or speak" Now i know, why there are so many mirrors, latvian girls like it to dance with the mirror by seeing themselves.
The Colonel is an AMAZING club... Staying at the also awesome Riga Hostel (they have private jacuzzi rooms or hostel-type rooms like ours that were 8 euros/night and quite secure as they lock up your things if you like AND are super trustworthy)... oh, the club! Well, we actually didn't pay to go in because the guy (named Cuba, who is now in Greece studying) knew them and got us in free... and pushed through a long long line at that! There is a long line many nights, but once inside, you will know why. In the dead of winter, Riga is so full of life on weekends that there are people from IRELAND flying Ryanair just to party there... it is magical. Many languages flooding the whole place, lights with PERFECT ambience in the many areas... downstairs, a tightly sealed door coated in many feathers (I think?) opens to what can be salsa dancing, dnb, or whatever fits the mood for the night. There's a decent sized dance floor for some people to show their hot selves off flying across it while others watch, and there's no shortage of seating given that it's meant to be a dance spot and bar... With places like this, you really don't need anything but what is in the immediate vicinity (lots and lots of places nearby, including a good restaurant, is open around the clock, and hey, when one club closes, the truly party driven can go to another) to have an absolute BLAST. It is seriously one of the best clubs I've visited in the world, says this American who's been all over that there world, including almost all of her own country's states... couchsurfing the whole way.

Just be CAREFUL and stay OUT of this places in Riga! we also were ripped off by two hookers who took us to a bar called "ZEPHYR". we got to the police but nothing happened !!
BEWARE THIS PLACE! Lots of people have been robbed in Roxy, and in many other clubs in Riga (I think mostly in old town). Personally I wouldn't trust any club anymore. This is just a list of places I know that rip off tourists but I'm sure there's many more: Groks, Roxy, Cigar Bar, Casino 777, Angelica, Barfly, Zephyr, Dolls House, Essential Club, Nobu (sushi place!)

stay well clear of this place. it has got dodgy written all over it. 3 of us went in to dance ended up getting our drinks spiked and robbed of all our money. please do not go in this place.

Nice and fun place...many local Latvians - good music and dancefloor - not a tourist trap...but be a nice tourist if you like to find friends...!

The Music is very random and repeating day by day. Mainly Vocal House, Pop Bootlegs and some R'n'B tracks thrown in. The resident DJs don't care that much about mixing and guiding the crowd. Though people have the choice between 3 floors with different styles. But if you expect a filled dancefloor, you're wrong. Most people keep sitting in the comfortable couches and just watch. At least the Roxy has some dancers, who run the 2 cages on the mainfloor. So all in all a disco for everybody, except demanding dancers, who care about music and atmosphere.
Searching for this place on the net I found a band with the same name. They should get together and have a depo at depo night.
it was an amazing club, but they did play fedde le grande - hands up for detroit about 20 times!! amazing girls though but didn't enjoy the search in the toilets with 3 bouncers. no need for it
La Rocca is the best club i have ever been to. Music is class, women unbeleivable, lights amazing.
It was a bit dead on a Wednesday, but the crowd that was there was really laid back and cool. Good alternative music. Depo is Riga's answer to Krakow's Lubu-Dubu.

Authentically grimy bar for those of a nihilistic bent. Witnessed an evening of black metal in their downstairs venue. Was a little perturbed that people tended not to applaud between songs. Is that a cultural quirk or were they all merely underwhelmed?
