Here's yet another place to have a pleasant amble. Trnovo Church square cleverly extends into this bridge which connects Ljubljana's Trnovo district to the Krakovo district over the Gradascica canal. At the risk of sounding like a broken record, it was indeed designed and built by Joze Plecnik (who else?) between 1929 and 1932 as the main element of the architect's canal embankment reconstruction project. Again Plecnik uniquely uses trees as a main decorative element with two rows of birch trees lending their color and vitality to the space. The bridge also prominently features Nikolaj Pirnat's stone statue of St. John the Baptist, the patron of the Trnovo Church, and pyramids at the corners designed to reference the church's own spires. Plecnik fanatics should also seek out 'the lamp of eternal light' inside Trnovo Church.

Along with Triple Bridge and the Dragon bridge, this is considered the city's third great bridge. Being a bit outside of the center, most tourists don't see it, but you should seek it out...
