Editor's review

The wild air of the Belle Epoque may have long since passed, but Jama Michalika remains a treasure like few others. 'Michalik's Den' was a favoured haunt of artists and their girlfriends, and tales of mischief and mayhem abound. These days it's a decidedly more genteel affair, but the decor sings of that fantastically flamboyant past. You could spend a whole lifetime getting to know all the eccentric art on display - the interior has hardly changed in a hundred years. Besides teas, coffees and cakes, visitors can also order up more substantial Polish fare. There is a no smoking policy in the historic rooms.

A true hidden gem with an astonishing interior and the added bonus of the small smoking bar at the front.True, the menu could do with an update and the staff an occasional kick up the arse but it's still my favourite place for a relaxed breakfast in Krakow. Go, and be amazed!

Amazing place! Seemed almost empty when we were here, but truly remarkable atmosphere. The city could well do more to promote this place but, well, maybe it is better that they don't....

Agree with all the comments below. Could do with a light touch. And a rethink of the food offers etc. Yes, it's worth seeing for the decor anyway.

Amazing decor. But agree, a little stuffy!

If it's raining outside there's no more magical place to wait till it passes. Slightly stiff though.

Jama Michalika is fantastically atmospheric place, even if the clientele mostly qualify for free bus passes. Wyspianski himself is said to have patronised this joint so extra kudos!
