Nazi Salute Leaves Tram Driver Unemployed
A 35-year-old tram driver was fired from the Vienna Public Transport Company Wiener Linien after greeting his passengers with the well-known "Sieg Heil" salute over the PA system.
When asked about the incident, he didn't deny the accusations, although he said that the address was meant as a joke. The driver could now face prosecution. If found guilty, he could be sentenced to up to 10 years of prison.
This is so ridiculous. Do the authorities in Austria or Germany seriously think that these laws preventing the Hitler Gruss and displaying the Swastika have a jot of difference. Even on antique markets in both countries it is banned - I am sure that both the Austrians and Germans will not suddenly turned into rampant Nazi's just by seeing the Swastika, nor does this chap deserve to loose his job because of this paranoid attitude. The Nazi's have gone, the far-right are not the Nazi's but a looney fringe that all nations have. Get over it and give the guy his living back. And before you ask I am not a Nazi but a sensible minded, educated man who's maternal family are all Dutch Jews.Reply
