A Doctor A Day Keeps The Taxman Away

Police have arrested a 59-year-old man for soliciting bed and board in hospitals for non-existent illnesses. Unbeknownst to the authorities, the wily adventurer had stayed in some 93 hospitals over the last two years, each time under false pretenses.

The ruse was finally rumbled when a doctor found no traces of the 'severe cranial damage' that the man claimed had stricken him after an alleged fall.

After close questioning, the ailing Austrian revealed that it had all been a hoax, and that he had invented the afflictions so as to secure free food and accommodation.

Doctors estimate that this healthcare odyssey had cost the system some 100,000 euros.

The man has been officially unemployed for 21 years, and he has now been arrested for welfare fraud.
