Editor's review

New to Krakow and unique in Poland, Luminaa is an Asian fusion restaurant just around the corner from the thriving nightlife of Plac Nowy in the city's historic Jewish quarter.

It's home is the ground floor of a former kamienica, which stood empty for decades, and into which the chefs of Luminaa have breathed a new lease of life.

So what makes Luminaa unique? First and foremost, there's the menu. It blends the cuisines of Asia to create recognisable favourites with new and sensational flavours. Equally talented are the bar staff, who can conjure up a cocktail aperitif merely on a word from you; if you want to test them, just tell them the flavour base you're looking for and then dive into the subsequent creation.

Light and welcoming throughout, you can expect something rather special from this new but talented kid on the block.

We came to Luminaa as we found it in the category 'different' on some internet site. Beautiful and modern interior and delicious food. We were having sirloin steak with goat cheese and vegetable and duck which were delicious and very tasty. Treated with glass of sparkling wine on the house and finished with few colorful coctails in the end....we will definitely get back while in Cracow

We visited Luminaa when on holiday a couple of months after it opened. As regular visitors to the city, we like to think we have eaten at most of the recommended restaurants, and given the high standard on offer, you could say we are hard to please! Lumina certainly has a different character from the usual Krakow establishment, particularly for Kazimierz where dark and dingy is the normal theme. It's certainly a stylish place, rather glamorous and glitzy and perhaps hoping to cater for a new generation of cool Krakovians. As the wife and I certainly don't fall into this category, we weren't wholly convinced that we would enjoy the experience but thought we would give it a try anyway following a recommendation from the receptionist in our hotel.

We were welcomed by the manager and lovely waitresses on arrival and couldn't have been made more welcome. Although not too busy, there were several other tables taken and the place had a nice relaxed ambience. The clientel was mixed, with both tourists and locals seemingly enjoying themselves. As it was a nice Spring evening we decided to sit outside in the fancy seats that look like heads! Not something we have seen before and added to the unique experience.

Service was exemplary given that the place had just opened. Too often when visiting new restaurants, things are approaching chaotic, but certainly not here.

For starters we went for the Tiger Prawns and the Duck salad. No complaints with either dish, both very tasty, well cooked generous portions. For mains we had the Monkfish and the Snapper cooked in banana leaf. The latter especially was absolutely delicious, the best fish I have had in a while, certainly the best I have had in Poland.

We decided to sample the extensive cocktail menu for dessert, followed by a couple of vodka shots (well it is Poland!).

We are back in Krakow next month and will certainly be returning! Highly recommended! We will give it a 9 as nothing can ever be perfect!

Oh, what a wonderful place, the most luxurious in the whole Krakow. I was more then satisfied with the quality of the food and hospitality of the stuff. I will definitely choose it for celebrating of my birthday next month. Music is nicely chosen as well. Very inviting and cosy atmosphere. I just love that small patio inside it! Thank you for brining this new splash to our Kracow life. We definatly need it!!!

Great place, something ultra new in Kazimierz. Delicious food, finally you can try a different cuisine than Italian or Polish in Krakow. Prosseco-delicious sparkling wine from the barrel. Mussels with pasta delicious! I recommend the shrimp and beef salad! Stylishly decorated, recommendable for business meetings and in the evenings with friends!. Nice waitresses ... : D
