Capella Cracoviensis in Słowacki Theatre!

On February 13, 2020, we announce a new cultural music season and inaugurate constant cooperation - Capella Cracoviensis - the most famous Polish band playing old instruments and Teatr im. Juliusz Słowacki, who is housed in one of the most beautiful theatre buildings in Poland. The large stage of the Theater will become Capella's new home. Among the programming proposals, among others a set of symphonies by Joseph Haydn, thematic concerts devoted to masterpieces of Baroque music or the resumption of the opera Cosi Fan Tutte by Mozart. The most interesting names of the international classical music scene will appear, among others: Jorge Jimenez, Marcin Masecki, Julia Semanzato, Christopher Maltman, Paul Goodwin, Sumi Jo.

Capella Cracoviensis, which has been in existence for 50 years, does not yet have its permanent headquarters in Krakow, which is why the possibility of presenting a series of excellent concerts in this interior is of great importance. In turn, the Theater - inviting Capella to its thresholds - gains an important artistic and repertoire partner. Concerts of the esteemed orchestra performing their repertoire on period instruments and using historical performing practices perfectly fit into the multiplicity of context and artistic atmosphere of the Theater. Thanks to the agreement of the City of Krakow - its cultural institution is Capella Cracoviensis - and the Marshal's Office of the Lesser Poland Voivodship, which is governed by the Słowacki Theater, the orchestra will perform regularly at St. Spirit Square 1. The presence of Capella in the Theater is regular, Sunday evening concerts (about 18:00) and Saturday morning matin è as part of the Capella cycle for children.

As two of Krakow's leading institutions and artistic groups - the Słowacki Theater and Capella Cracoviensis - we join forces to create an unsurpassed example of synergy: dramatic theatre and classical music on historical instruments in an extremely beautiful edifice of symbolic significance - a magnet attracting the audience from the furthest corner at the same time interdisciplinary art characteristic of the theatre language and for the experiments of artistic proposed by CC. - encourages Jan Tomasz Adamus, general and artistic director of Capella Cracoviensis.

We connect two institutions, their achievements and image, this cooperation is a typical situation
win-win, without additional costs. The theatre will gain an orchestra, and the orchestra will be established in a way that perfectly matches its repertoire. The audience of the Słowacki Theater will surely be pleased by the constant presence of Capella and the possibility of cyclical contact with music at a higher, world level - sums up Krzysztof Głuchowski, the general and artistic director of the Teatr im. J. Słowacki.

Cooperation between the City of Krakow and the Marshal's Office of the Lesser Poland Voivodship, as a result of which classical music concerts were held at the Słowacki Theater, was initiated over a decade ago by the organization and concert and theatre productions of the Opera Rara festival.

We have hard evidence that the cooperation of institutions has a deep sense: for culture, for emphasizing European relationships in our city, for the promotion of Krakow and Lesser Poland, for connecting what is close to each other. The vision of director Adamus and Głuchowski come together on the basis of openness, seeing potential in cooperation. I enjoy the full prospect of building the atmosphere of this place together, ” emphasizes Jacek Majchrowski, Mayor of the City of Krakow.

Słowacki Theater is the place of the premiere of Wyspiański's Wedding and the first building in Krakow with electric lighting. Therefore, it is also a symbol of tradition and progress. To better use the potential of this place, which is the flagship of the capital of Lesser Poland, we join forces, creating an example of harmonious cooperation significantly increasing the artistic, cultural and symbolic impact of the object. We welcome cooperation of the Słowacki Theater and Capella with the greatest joy and consistent support Cracoviensis - He said Witold Koz Łowski , Marshal of the Voivodship of Lesser Poland
