Mr Tralaliński // Opera Krakowska

"Mr Tralaliński" is a show aimed at children aged 6-10; it is a combination of music by outstanding Polish composers and of poetry written for children.

The performance includes selected songs from the "Alphabet" by Witold Lutosławski, which the composer called children's songs and annotated: "to be performed for children and by children." As described by Mieczysław Tomaszewski, musicologist: "There is simplicity in them, achieved through concentration, through not rejecting certain tools, and using a rich selection thereof, but nonetheless in a subtle, allusive manner, relying on the sensitivity and intelligence of the listener."

The artists also perform the ballad "Old Man and Old Woman" by Stanisław Moniuszko, written to the text by Józef Ignacy Kraszewski; "Five Songs for Children" with lyrics by Józef Czechowicz — Tadeusz Baird's only piece that is a combination of music and children’s poetry, and several pieces from "Children's Rhymes" by Karol Szymanowski, composed to the poems of Kazimiera Iłłakowiczówna. Although these are songs for children, their quality and artistry made them a staple of some of the most outstanding singers.
