Summer Jazz Festival

Summer Jazz Festival at Piwnica Pod Baranami was organized for the first time in 1996 during celebration of the 40th anniversary of the Piwnicy pod Baranami. Witold Wnuk - founder and director of the Festival inspired by legendary Piotr Skrzynecki, has presented during July a cycle of everyday concerts at the Piwnica club.

Each year the Festival expanded presentions beside 31 everyday concert at the Piwnica club for more additional events at the Krakow's Philharmonics, Krakow’s Opera, Radio Krakow auditorium, theaters, art galleries and open air concerts on the Main Market and the Archeological Museum grounds.

During last fifthteen years all Polish top musicians were performing each several times (Adam Makowicz, Tomasz Stańko, UrszulaDudziak, MichałUrbaniak, ZbigniewNamysłowski, JarekŚmietana, WojciechKarolak, Jan "Ptaszyn" Wróblewski, LeszekMożdżer, PiotrWojtasik, and more..) plus many foreign stars (Chick Corea, Stanley Clarke, Bobby McFerrin, Jean Luc Ponty, Leny White,Bobby McFerrin, Lee Konitz, Branford Marsalis, Joe Lovano, Maria Schneider, Eddie Henderson, Greg Osby, HamiettBluiet, Nigel Kennedy, Larry Coryell, The Rosenberg Trio, Rashied Ali, Ricky Ford, John Abercrombie, Nils Landgren, Joao Bosco, Hiram Bullock, Leni Stern, Markus Stockhausen, Paulo Fresu, Rachel Z, VadimBrodski, and more.)

Every year festival presents about 60 concerts with approx. 300 artists from Poland and abroad. Total number of spectators is around 40.000. Radio partner of the Festival is the Radio Krakow, and press partner " "Dziennik Polski". Festival is the biggest Polish Jazz Festival and one of the biggest in Europe.
