NETIA OFF CAMERA

Over one hundred movies screened in Krakow’s studio cinemas, on the Szczepański square and in the Józef Czapski Pavillion in the National Museum. A few hundred guests, concerts, industry workshop and a great many – official and unofficial but always inspiring – conversations. Everything following our motto – “Feel it on your own skin!”

Our volunteers distributed over 26 thousand film tickets. The audience’s interest and engagement was equal to the diversity of our programme. Next to our traditional sections like ‘Discoveries’, ‘Catching Up’ and ‘US Indies’, and the competition screenings, we’ve had three new sections: ‘So Scary it Hurts’, ‘Breathless’ and ‘Adults Only?’ with, respectively, blood-curdling horror, extreme passions and obsessions, and unconventional variations on adulthood. In addition, we’ve hosted a special screenings of Krzysztof Kieślowski’s ‘Double Life of Veronique’ accompanied by a meeting with actors and collegues of the director, moderated by Grażyna Torbicka.

The cinematic madness taking over Krakow for ten days had two focal points: The Main Competition ‘Making Way’ and the Polish Feature Film Competition. The first was won by the dutch production of an Iranian director Kaweh Modiri – ‘Bodkin Ras’. The second by Dariusz Gajewski and his ‘Strange Heaven’. We’ve found out the Script Pro winner: ‘Magnetyczny Henio’ by Monika Purzycka-Olchowik and Małgorzata Skolankiewicz, and the FIPRESCI award went to Agnieszka Smoczyńska’s ‘The Lure’.

Krzysztof Zanussi was our Head of Jury in the Main Competition – he’s left his handprints in the Krakow’s Stars Alley and the screenings of his films proved incredibly popular. So where the outdoors screenings of ‘Cinema on the Square’ section, including Wenders’ ‘Million Dollar Hotel’, Haigh’s ’45 years’ and Audiard’s ‘Dheepan.’

The Festival was preserved in word and image: in the festival chronicles, photos, articles, reports, interviews and other forms which will remind us about the exciting events of the 9th NETIA OFF CAMERA.
