Art of Ancient Glass

A presentation of blue decorative glass from Herat is a case study of glasswork dating back to ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia. The exhibition at the Etnographic Museum is also a meeting with a family, who run the only remaining glasswork workshop and for decades have been passing the secrets of blue glass making from father to son. The blue glass trinkets are also a sample overview of Islamic applied arts and a question about the future of handicratf in Afghanistan.

The exhibition presents nearly 30 blue glass items: vases, bowls, wine glasses and candelabras obtained in Kabul in late 1960's and early 1970's.
