Zakopane Loses World Championships Bid

Zakopane has failed to win the rights to host the Nordic World Skiing Championships of 2015. It is the third consecutive time that the town has lost out in the contest. The Swedish city of Falun came out on top, beating off Finland's Lahti, Germany's Obersdorf and Poland's winter capital.

Zakopane has hosted the tournament three times, in 1929, 1939 and 1962. However, the town's mayor, Jan Gasienica-Walczak, has already announced that he will try again next time round.
