'The Spinster and Kitten' is an affordable little restaurant tucked away on the North West of the Old Town, where it remains relatively undiscovered by tourists. Inside the tastefully subdued interior prospective diners can tuck into a range of tasty European dishes, such as Norwegian salmon or beef casserole, each served with a side order and a smile. And if you're not hungry, then there's a crowded bar area at the front where you can sample a native brew and exchange sailors' stories with bandanna-clad locals...

top service; hospital and kind staff; nice ambiente; traditional food; near the old castle
Nice review but hospital in English means krankhaus
Lovely, cosy, excellent Latvian food, quick service, polite, kind and cheap!
And all this in the beginning of February when there is very very little tourists around.
We (my husband) and I recommend it!
I read good reviews and thought that business lunch would be also good there. It was the worst restaurant experience in my life. Service is horrible and waitress just gave me many humiliating words, because Im vegetarian.
I didn't get my full order to make it worse.
At the end I went to pay and 3 rockers at the cashier were discussing how much should they take from me for my dry and cold potatoes and tried to make fun of me.
I was angry, hungry and humiliated after this restaurant.
Maybe during the evening the staff and food is different, but during the day it was my most awful experience ever.
I recommend it with all my heart. Onion soup delicious, catfish with delicious sauce, tasty Latvian juice with honey and cranberry syrup! Place is very nice, near the Castle. Prices are good. Enjoy!
This place is an old wine cellar. That is the charm. It is cramped and warm and real. It is also hard to find. If youŗe lucky enough to wander inside, you will find it filled with Latvian countryman having beers and a hardworking woman or two (maybe her daughter) making the most authentic Latvian food in all of Riga.
I loved this place. It is cozy little place. It was my home base while I was in Riga. Sometimes I would begin my evening there and sometimes it was the place that would look after me and give me home cooked meals to sober me up. I was in Riga for 2 weeks and stopped by there every chance I could. Good, honest people serving good honest food.
Very nice restaurant, nice located, food was amazing, every year when we visit Latvia we go there, sometimes you have to make a reservation, but it's not a problem, usually you can communicate with reception of your hotel and they will call and make it for you.
Staff is wonderful and helpful.
Small but very nice restaurant. A few too many irritating middle-aged Germans but food was great, waitress lovely, beer excellent. Not fancy but great for a cheap but filling meal
