Graffiti in Gallery

Graffiti and street art invade ‘traditional’ gallery space in Prague’s City Gallery, one of the city’s best-known venues, to turn its inside upside down.

Until mid-January, visitors will be able to view works traditionally linked with the city's periphery, where visual landscape is reinforced concrete, rather than the Gothic or Baroque. Entitled Stuck on the City, the show brings together work of top international street art and graffiti artists, like Swoon, Zedz, the Czech Republic’s Pasta Oner and others.

Curator Radek Wolmuth admitted criticism was expected from those who say graffiti and similar kind of work belongs not in galleries but on the street, and so the aim was to evoke the city outside the space, at least a little. Also, the idea is for the art was to be done as spontaneously as possible, on site.
