Sopot's Stinker for Renovation

An infamous Sopot's tunnel under the railroad track, connecting Majkowskiego and Obrońców Westerplatte St., has quite aptly been nicknamed "The Stinker", not only due to its looks, but also to its specific scent values. The one-man high and two-men wide tunnel is regularly devastated, and also fouled with feces by some. The Sopot residents have repeatedly reported the presence of local winos, who disturb the passers-by, and spoil the image of Sopot as safe and classy holiday resort.

The tunnel formally belongs to Polish Railways (PKP), and is not really a pedestrian passage, but a former water canal. Nevertheless, it has been so popular for many years, that the owner, the PKP, has decided to change its fate.

After the works are completed, by June 30., the tunnel will be higher and wider.
