Underwater Test Hotel in Gdynia

A prototype construction of two disc-like buildings, one of which will be submerged in Baltic sea, will be erected near Gdynia Aquarium. It, however, will not host guests. At least for now.
The hotel will be a research center devoted to checking applied solutions and improving them. Free of charge access to the facility is not out of question, but this decision is to be made after conducting numerous tests. According to Lech Rowinski, PhD, the engineers need to check building's reaction to waves and tides pushing against it, it's efficiency in sub- and emerging, as well as the influence of water and temperature on windows.
Deep Ocean Technology company has been conducting research on such a structure for several years. Hotel has aroused massive interest worldwide. Inquiries come from the Maledives, Dubai or French Polynesia
The prototype should be ready by 2014, and the whole project completed in 2015. The total cost of this EU co-funded investment is 33,5 mln zł, with a subsidy of 19 mln.
