Shooting for Walesa Film Begins

Acclaimed Polish film director Andrzej Wajda is currently working on his forthcoming flick, a biopic of the legendary Solidarity leader and one of Poland's most famous modern figures, Lech Walesa.

The script has been written by Janusz Glowacki with Robert Wieckiewicz portraying Walesa, and Agnieszka Grochowska, his wife.

The first scenes are currently being shot in the Gdansk shipyards, including opening scenes of the worker's revolt in December 1970. Closing the film will be original footage of Lech Walesa's speech in 1989 in front of the US Congress.

The film is expected to be released in the autumn of 2012.
