Shakespeare Theatre to Open in Gdansk

The city of Gdansk will be home to a reconstructed Shakespearean Theatre, a project set to be completed in 2013. Heading the project is Jerzy Limon who in the 1990s discovered traces of a 17th century Shakespearean playhouse in Gdansk and has since pushed for a reconstruction of the theatre.

The project has already won the approval and patronage of the Prince of Wales, who recently hosted Limon and Pawel Adamowicz, President of Gdansk, at his private residence at Clarence House for dinner. The President has invited Prince Charles to Gdansk for the 2013 opening of the theatre.

Gdansk is already home to a Shakespeare Theatre Festival which takes place annually in July and August.
