A hero's farewell

Polish ski-jump hero Adam Małysz will be honoured in Zakopane, with a day of exhibition and competition events to mark his retirement.
The Tatra Ski Association said it had already planned a day in the skiers name, on March 26. Now the two-time Polish sports personality of the year has announced he will retire on that date, and thousands of fans are expected to flock to Zakopane to bid their hero farewell.
The International Ski Federation lists Małysz as having competed more than 500 times since the World Cup in Austria in 1999. His victories include 91 World Cup podium finishes, four World Championship gold medals, and three Olympic silver medals.
His career almost ended in January when he was injured during competition in Zakopane. Just a week later he was back, and went on to set a new Polish ski-flying record with a jump of 230.5 metres in Norway.
