Royal Baby Receives Special Szczyrk Gift

When Prince George Alexander Louis was born, the local evangelical pastor, Rev. Jan Byrt, sent him a unique present: "szczyrkawki", metal shepherd's bells made by local sheep keepers, with the town's name engraved on them. According to the legend, the town's name, Szczyrk, came from "szczyrk" the sound that the bells produce.

In return, the Buckingham palace has sent Rev. Byrt a special thank you letter. - It's a picture of the prince and his royal parents, the duke and duchess of Cambridge, along with best wishes. We appreciate this pleasant distiction very much - said Rev. Byrt adding that hopefully the bells will "szczyrk" by the royal pram some time soon.
