Skyscraper To Replace Cinema

In two years Poznan will gain a new office building, with cafes, a restaurant and the uppermost viewing terrace in Poznań. The building, adjacent to the Sheraton Hotel, will be named "Baltic", after a historical cinema, which has been one of Poznan landmarks for years.

The "Baltic" will have 16 floors and a characteristic, corrugated form."We are building a resident-friendly space, but also one that attracts attention, allows space orientation and is intriguing, ambigious in its form" said Piotr Voelkel, one of the investors. The works are to begin in spring 2014, and the first guests will step inside the "Baltic" at the beginning of 2016.

The old cinema, "Baltic" stood here from 1929 until 2003. "It was here that the most important film premiers in Poznan took place. And standing in long queues to the ticket offices one could buy a soda fountain drink or a hot dog, or even the first gellato in Poznan. We would like to restore the former social glam of the place" explains Michał Włodarczyk from Garvest Real Estate, one of the investors, why around the office building a small square will be built, for open-air film screenings and concerts.
