Bucharest's main train station - and the only one you'll need, regardless of where you're headed - is Gare de Nord. Named after Paris' more famous Gare du Nord, Buch's train station was constructed to be an exact replica of Paris' on the outside, and if it weren't for the stray dogs (the most aggressive in Bucharest!) and kids huffing paint, we'd almost be convinced. Gare de Nord has 24 hour left luggage, bankomats, cafes, a McDonalds, newsstands and many dubious characters. There's a handy metro station below the place that can get you wherever you need to go, or take trolleybus 85 from outside the station to Piata Universitatii. Beware of pickpockets, con men and hoodwink taxi drivers. Also don't expect any of the ticket sellers to speak English...

Interesting, the comments reflect my experiences /thoughts from when used the station in 2005. However the much of Romania was also great people and enjoyable.

An exchange student from Zalau, Rumania stayed 2 months with us in Germany. She is just an amazing girl who represents her country in the best way I like.I wish she were my daughter...We said manytimes. This beauty attracted me to invite my desire exploring the country of Dracula since last year but I have just made it this week in a fortune.

I have been staying the whole week this week next to the station. It was interesting to see the night life there( dogs, lady boy or hooker?streetchildren, homeless, and many more). So far nothing happened when I go around in the night alone(up 22O'clock) with my camera on my shoulder.Perhaps I am lucky, I don' t know.

The worst is only the taxi; the same time and place we take from hotel to sector 1, but different driver means a different price hit.100Lei,50,15,12,9,8 ...becareful!Do you think they are more dangerous than the legen Dracula hundred years ago?My boss said:a-a... We should take it easy and share our treasure with poor people here, they deserve sometimes but not always.

Regarding food, we try to enjoy the spices which is different to the place I came from and the place I live now with my family...hohooo I need more chilies, please.I try different restaurant around the station; fastfood-Kebap,sausage,burger... But I prefer buffet at Hotel for my comfort.

My new friend from Bucharest said that People called Bucharest as a little Paris.Take a look at the shape of the station and the gate ... And ofcourse the gate. So,do not forget your French when you already learned it before. You will need it...and winning the local people heart by learning a basic Rumanish.Da.

try to avoid it as much as you can..its is the worst place ever. You don't feel safe, there are no decent places to wait for the train apart from mc donalds and kfc and there are so many gipsies that you should always have a look if your lugagges are safe or still with you

you think the train station is bad now, you should have seen it before! Both the facilities and the character of the place have improved tremendously!
