This curious new exhibition at the National Museum features over 160 Chinese teapots made in the country's most famous factory between 1950 and 2005. The teapots' material of thick ceramic is ideal for brewing tea while retaining its heat. A diverse array of shapes is on display from abstract to geometric forms as well as nature-inspired silhouettes drawing on the visual characteristics of dates, lotus flowers, and bamboo shoots. There are even some more whimsical shapes, such as miniature houses, boats, bridges, animals and human figures.
