Era Nowe Horyzonty Film Festival

Thu 17th
Jul

This fantastic film festival is now in its 8th year - and its third in Wroclaw after making the move from Cieszyn in 2006. The festival, known as Era Nowe Horyzonty (Era New Horizons) or ENH for short, brings the best in avant garde and original film-making to Lower Silesia. There are many elements to the two week festival but the principal strand is the international competition. 16 films will be presented for the first time in Poland, all of which have been carefully selected from hundreds of entries in festival and fairs world wide. Competing in 2008 for the ENH Grand Prix are 'Jesus Christ Saviour', a German documentary by Peter Geyer recording a performance by the legendary actor Klaus Kinski; 'En La Ciudad De Sylvia' by Jose Luis Gubin; 'Eat, For This Is My Body' by Michelange Quay; and 'My Winnipeg' by Guy Maddin.

As well as the international competition there will be a competition of new Polish film, Polish short films and a number of retrospectives on respected pioneers of the screen, such as Theo Angelopoulos and Terence Davies. Finally there will be reviews of both Brazilian and New Zealand cinema. The latter may primarily be known for Peter Jackson and his work on 'Lord of the Rings', but during ENH festival goers will be given the chance to delve deep into the countries seminal works, especially their golden period during the late seventies and early eighties.
