Editor's review

It's a peculiar mix - one of the most authentic medieval city centre squares in Europe (complete with a 14th century pharmacy) alongside all the trappings of modern tourism.

Nevertheless, the town hall square is a place you will see often if you are in Tallinn for any length of time at all. It's where tourists head to pay a little more than they need to for a drink or a meal, but also the best place in the city to get your bearings or meet friends before heading off to explore the Tallinn's cultural treasures or night life.

The square is absolutely postcard pretty, but if you want to get decent photographs you need to wake up pretty early in the morning. Come 9am it's generally heaving with tourists.
