If music died with the riots at the Rolling Stones gig in Altamont, 1969, Bassy Cowboy is doing a fine job of keeping the corpse animated.
There are two strands to this venue's philosophy. The first is, that if it was recorded after '69, they're not playing it. The second is more sartorial - with an emphasis on bohemian debonair for the boys and skimpy for the girls.
It's not just rock 'n roll that gets them up and dancing on the polka dots here, there's the full gamut of country, blues, soul, early punk and more. There is live music most weekends, and DJs every evening, all with a 'vinyl-only' policy. Watch out for one in particular, a 74-year-old who has been on the decks since 1965 and shows no signs of tiring.
