Editor's review

Philosopher, writer, translator, doctor... Mori Ôgai learned his medical trade from German experts, first in his homeland in Japan and later in Berlin.

But, aside from his medical expertise, Ôgai was instrumental in bridging the cultural gap between east and west, by translating many papers on a variety of subjects, from European languages into Japanese.

As if that wasn't enough, he is also credited with heralding the modern age of literature in Japan, with the publication of his first novel, called Dancing Girl.

This museum holds a collection of his original manuscripts, and artifacts relating to his life.
