Slask Wroclaw win basketball qualifier

Slask Wroclaw gained an important victory on the way to qualification of Round II of the FIBA Europe Cup.

Kamil Chanas was on fire, scoring a massive 28 points, as Slask Wroclaw edged the previously undefeated Maroussi Honda 74-71 in Group F. The youngster made four out of five three-pointers as well as sinking 10 out of 12 free throws.

Slask led 30-29 at half-time and extended their lead to 46-42 after the third quarter. But Honda rallied, under the leadership of Panagiotis Yannakis and by full-time had tied the game at 62 each.

The hosts however had a little more in reserve, digging deep for the overtime win.

The victory has left Slask with three wins and two defeats, giving them an excellent chance of reaching Round II. The Polish outfit will fancy their chances at Hapoel Tel Aviv Subaru next week.

Tomasz Jankowski, the Slask coach, was blunt in his post-match appraisal: "Our young players showed their usefulness to the team, when the most experienced players have failed. We are glad to win the game because it is a big step towards qualifying for the next round."
