Wroclaw Loses Out On Expo 2012

Despite the months of hard work and preparation Wroclaw's hopes of hosting the Expo 2012 were cruelly shattered last night in Paris.

The three way race between Wroclaw, Tangiers (Morocco) and Yeosu (South Korea) had been tight right up until the dying days, however towards the finish line it turned out to be a two-horse race between Tangiers and Yeosu as Wroclaw was eliminated in the first round of voting. Yeosu went on to clinch it to the delight of their citizens who celebrated on the streets waving flags and singing.

The coastal city's theme "The Living Ocean and Coast", struck a nerve with many nations with Bidding Committee Chairman Kim Jae-chul stating that "The Expo 2012 Yeosu Korea will be a global festival that suggests new alternatives for the future of humankind."

As for Wroclawians, it won't all be doom and gloom in 2012 - the European Football Championships are coming to town and Wroclaw is set to host a decent share of the games. There will still be a chance for the city to show its merit at one of the world's greatest events!
