Lady Macbeth of the Mtsensk District

The Poznan Opera will premiere Lady Macbeth of the Mtsensk District this month, an opera in four acts composed by Russian composer Dmitri Shostakovich. This particular opera, not to be confused with Verdi's Macbeth, is based on Nikolai Leskov's novel of the same name. This production is part of the ongoing Women's Year being celebrated in the 2011/2012 season at the Teatr Wielki theatre.
