Mathijs Leeuwis: pedal steel guitar and tape manipulation

In 2018 Leeuwis caused a stir with the album GALIBIER on which the pedal steel guitar played the leading role. An instrumental ode to the most beautiful and painful climbs a person can encounter. The album was much more than just a reflection of cycling sentiment: '' GALIBIER is an intoxicating exploration of an instrument that seems to bend effortlessly in all directions. Parallel to the development of his own musical idiom on this instrument, Mathijs is completely captivated by the power of repetition, improvisation with analogue equipment and the manipulation of tape. During the performance at POM he will give space to these facets of his work in addition to the composed material from GALIBIER. In his live performance, Mathijs constantly searches for new sounds and methods and always curious about the limits of his abilities.
