MeatShell: experimental-folk

MEATSHELL is the experimental-folk duo of Helen Svoboda (contrabass/voice) and Andrew Saragossi (tenor saxophone). The name encompasses the physicality, intensity and vulnerability of playing with two. With a shared curiosity for the subtle beauty of things, the pair combines traditional song forms and unconventional instrumental techniques, emphasising the power of story-telling through sound. Infused with elements of minimalism, improvisation and contemporary jazz, the music is raw and exposed, yet full-bodied and perpetual, propelled by the momentum of the human heartbeat.
Since relocating to the Netherlands from Australia in late 2018, Svoboda and Saragossi have been steadily building a reputation for their “out-of-the-box” thinking and performance. During this time, the duo has performed in support of Jef Neve (BEL) at the AINSI Theatre for Jazz Maastricht, the Conservatorium Maastricht Jazz Night at La Bonbonniere, Café & Bar Zu Hause (Aachen) and Parkstadt Theatre (Heerlen) as well as featuring at the inaugural Unknown Orbits Festival for creative and experimental music (Maastricht edition) and the WE Festival (Maastricht).
