Murray Head sang these 1984 lyrics in “One Night in Bangkok”. They couldn’t be more illuminating of the wonderful, mysterious city. Bangkok is bustling with life, day and night, and it lives up to its reputation in so many ways. A city of indulgence, Bangkok will awaken all your senses: bright lights, spicy food, traffic galore, and that’s just the start.

In many ways, Bangkok is for everyone. History buffs will wander wide-eyed from temple to temple, exploring the deep history around each corner. The city’s most beautiful temples are scattered about, with literally hundreds to see. Foodies will never get bored with the local Thai cuisine and an impressive array of tastes from around the world. In addition to local specialties, some of Bangkok’s most well-known restaurants are Indian, European, or fusion cuisines. Party-goers, too, will find themselves at home. There’s absolutely no shortage of pubs and clubs and depending on preferences, the X-rated nightlife is also an option for those who seek it out.

Locals and tourists alike make shopping a must in Bangkok, where malls are never hard to come by and street markets are bustling day and night. Expect to bargain some of the time, but Western visitors will enjoy the favorable exchange rate with the local Thai baht (THB).
