Editor's review

London’s newest and most unusual addition to its public transportation network is its Thames cable car, officially known as the Emirates Air Line. A line of gondolas 90 metres in the air connect the south and north banks of the Thames with some truly stunning views of the city. The northern point is at Royal Victoria, which connects to the DLR (Docklands Light Railway) network. The southern point arrives by the North Greenwich station of the Jubilee tube line, near the O2 arena and the many attractions that Greenwich has to offer. Using an Oyster card to pay for a “boarding pass” on the cable car will give you a significant discount over cash, and do keep in mind that travelcards will not cover the trip (though you will receive a discount).
