Editor's review

This cosy and elegant pensjonat has been welcoming guests since 1933. The flavour of those times - when Zakopane struck a romantic chord for Poles across the country - has been faithfully preserved in several rooms, especially the drawing room where you can unwind in front of a roaring log-fire. A brand new sauna has just been opened if you really want to turn up the heat. Zakopane and the highlands continue to inspire the hearts of Poles, and standards have clearly not dropped at Szarotka which remains a favourite with many distinguished groups and companies who choose it as their trusted port of call. Well worth your consideration.

Very lovely place. Fireplace and comfortable chairs in the hall are great especially after all day walking.

Szartka is a clean, friendly, quiet, simple house which is about 15 min walk from Krupowki St, but only a 10 minute walk from trail heads to the Tatras (via Droga do Bialego - stay right on the wider path when the street ends). Luxurious it is not, but at 100 zwoty ($40) for a one person room, it is a great value. This is a cash only business. The younger staff speaks excellent English.

it is just a short walk from the shops. The rooms are of a decent size and are warm and homely.

This trusty hotel was our base in Zakopane during our visit last month. It's obviously a popular place as I've been recommended this place countless times! Not a 5 star hotel but clean, comfortable, COSY and FRIENDLY! I hope to come back soon!

I gather that this has been in the same family for generations. We were very well looked after and felt we were discovering Poland from the inside. Great skiing too!

A very welcoming hostel that we thoroughly enjoyed staying at. Love the Polish mulled wine. Dangerously addictive!

Can't believe I'm reading this (below) - I've stayed at Szarotka on more than one occasion and found it nothing short of welcoming, spotlessly clean and great value. That 'review' looks suspiciously out of place when you read all the other far more positive ones. Personally, I'm very happy to recommend this Guest House. Martin.

Total tragedy

I never had been in worse place. The owner is very unfriendly and unhelpful.

Typical lady who forget that communism is gone long time ago.

Treat staff terrible. I was disgust. One girl is working in reception, bar and clean rooms in the same time.

Rooms are very small, untidy, bar always close. Food absolutely horrible.

Please stay away from this nasty place. It is definitely not hotel.

No complaints about this one. We always pick pensions, and this one proved a good'un.

One of the friendliest places to stay in Zakopane, with clean rooms, reasonable prices and delightful meals. Ideal for weekend breaks, or for longer ski breaks in the winter.

Wow! Brilliant A1! From the outside you think great, this carries on once you enter the front door. The decor is outstanding with its 30s style. The staff were exceptional and waited on us hand-and-foot without any obligation. The set up for leaving our cases, skiis etc was very convenient and the sitting room area with the comfy leather sofas and crackling wood fire was a bonus after a long day skiing!

The breakfast was very good and full of choices from a cooked breakfast to continental (without limits).

As far as the rooms: reasonably spacious, very clean and once again beautifully decorated.

The location was about a 7min walk to town centre, not to everyones taste, but we preffered the fact that we were near enough but not-quite in the hustle and bustle of the shops etc. Definitely walking distance to everything so once again A1.

Am ready to book my next holiday at Szarotka and have recommended it to all my friends and family. You definitely wont regret your cheap stay here.

My mother and I stayed here for three nights and couldn't have found a nicer place. We loved being out of the main part of town and enjoyed the walk into and back from town. Breakfast was excellant and dinner was cooked to order and hit the spot every night. Our room was simply furnished but very comfortable and had a beautiful deck. It is no wonder that this pension has a loyal following. I would return there in a moment,

Staying at Szarotka was a wonderful experience for our family of 4. It's quaint, homey atmosphere was a definite plus, and the courteous and attentive staff made us feel a part of the family. The best part of our stay at Szarotka was the high quality of the meals. Our dinners were cooked to order with the freshest of ingredients and the breakfast buffet had everything you could want, including eggs cooked to order. Also, since we are not fluent in the Polish language, it was great that the staff spoke English. Szarotka's location was ideal - perched up the hill in a quiet, wooded neighborhood,it's a pleasant 10-15 minute walk away from Zakopane's bustling centrum.

What a fantastic place! We had the most delicious apple cake and we felt very welcome in this warm and friendly place. A very special atmosphere. Good restaurant, good interior design and excellent, English speaking staff. A big thumbs up!

It was pleasure to stay at Szarotka. Rooms weren't so big but contained all what we needed. You had to pay extra for breakfast but that was really worth of it. The location could be closer to center but we walked few times per day to Zakopane main street without problems. Thank you to helpful staff, we really enjoyed our few days at Zakopane and Szarotka.
